Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Network Security) (ICA60208)

Course Description

This course is designed for students who wish to develop skills and knowledge to build and manage secure network systems in a business environment. Emphasis is placed on practical skills using a hand-on work approach. Areas of study include network security, internet networking, virtual networking, SQL database management, Linux, Microsoft and Novell operating systems. Students must also have the opportunity to study the IT essentials and CISCO, CCNA, CCNP programs. This course distinguishes itself from similar IT courses due to its emphasis on security and virtual design networking which are emerging technologies in the network design and administration fields.

Qualification

On successful completion of this course the student would obtain Advanced Diploma in Information Technology (Networking) ICA60208. After completion of this course, students may opt to start a career in areas of network security or choose pursue specialized and higher qualifications in the field of IT.

Mode & Method of Delivery

The method of delivery includes classroom based theory and practical training sessions. A simulated workplace environment is created through individual and group activities and practical tasks in both delivery and assessment where students will be facilitated to develop skills and knowledge to fulfill the requirements for each competency unit and its elements.

  • IELTS average score of 6.0 or higher
  • Students must be of a minimum age of 18 years or older
  • International students – overseas equivalent of High School Certificate
  • Local Students – Australian High School Certificate (HSC) qualification or Certificate II in IT or higher level of qualification
  • Diploma in Information Technology (Networking) ICA50405

 Pre-requisite

Foundation Units of Competence is a must prior to undertaking this course. Students who have not completed these units can undertake separate classes for these units and achieve required competency prior to commencing this course.

Assessments

Assessments cover a broad range of skills and knowledge needed to demonstrate competency and will integrate knowledge and skills with their practical application. All Assessments of units of competence will be conducted according to the Assessment guidelines and competency standards of the official Training Package for this qualification.

Assessments vary from unit to unit but generally consist of written tasks, projects, practical demonstrations, major projects that involve research and examinations.

Skill Recognition/Credit Transfers

Students may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) by providing evidence that they have the required skills and knowledge in the specific areas of competency through work /industry experience and/or completed eligible assessments in equivalent or higher qualification.

 Appropriate credit transfer may be granted to eligible students against each unit of competency on evidence to successful completion of the same unit in an equivalent or higher nationally endorsed qualification.

Students with credit transfers will finish the course in a shorter duration and are advised to consult appropriate authorities/bodies for applicable criteria if they are planning further study or stay in Australia.

Education Pathways

Successful completion of this course will qualify students to undertake Bachelor of Business - Information Systems or Computer Systems Support.

This qualification may pave the way for students enter careers such as Database Security Expert, E-Risk Manager, E-Security Specialist, ICT Network Specialist, IT Security Analyst/Engineer, Network Security Analyst, Senior Network Administrator, Systems Security Analyst, etc.

In order to attain this qualification students are required to complete 27 units –8 core units and 9 elective units plus 10 Advanced Diploma pre-requisite units.
