Course Description
This course is aimed at providing students with skills and knowledge required for support and specialist roles in installation and management of simple IT networks. It would enable the students to effectively operate in both independent and team work environments. It is suitable for those with the Certificate III in IT qualification and seeking a pathway to further qualifications and learning.
Qualification
On successful completion of this course the students would be awarded the Certificate IV in Information Technology (Networking) ICA40405 which is a nationally recognized qualification. This could help students gain entry into career paths or further education in the field of IT.
Mode & Method of Delivery
The method of delivery includes classroom based theory and practical training sessions. A simulated workplace environment is created through individual and group activities and practical tasks in both delivery and assessment where students will be facilitated to develop skills and knowledge to fulfill the requirements for each competency unit and its elements.
Entry Requirements
- IELTS average score of 6.0 or higher
- Students must be of a minimum age of 18 years or older
- International students – overseas equivalent of High School Certificate
- Local Students – Australian High School Certificate (HSC) qualification or Certificate II in IT or higher level of qualification
Pre-requisite
Foundation Units of Competence is a must prior to undertaking this course. Students who have not completed these units can undertake separate classes for these units and achieve required competency prior to commencing this course.

Assessments
Assessment processes cover a broad range of skills and knowledge needed to demonstrate competency and will integrate knowledge and skills with their practical application. All Assessments of units of competence will be conducted according to the assessment guidelines and competency standards of the official Training Package for this qualification.
Students will be required to perform in a range of areas including and not limited to: Short Answer Test, Case Study, Presentation, Practical Demonstration, Computer based activities and Written Examinations etc.

Skill Recognition/Credit Transfers
Students may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) by providing evidence that they have the required skills and knowledge in the specific areas of competency through work /industry experience and/or completed eligible assessments in an equivalent or higher qualification.
Appropriate credit transfer may be granted to eligible students against each unit of competency on evidence to successful completion of the same unit in an equivalent or higher nationally endorsed qualification.
Students with credit transfers will finish the course in a shorter duration and are advised to consult appropriate authorities/bodies for applicable criteria if they are planning further study or stay in Australia.
Educational Pathways
This nationally recognized qualification will satisfy entry requirements for Diploma in Information Technology (Network Engineering) ICA40405 or seek advanced standing in Information Technology courses at other Institutes.
Career Opportunities
This course provides students with entry into and career progression in the field of Information Technology depending on the level of skills and knowledge demonstrated. Students could enter into 'junior' support roles in the areas of: Network Administration and IT Help Desk Support Officer. Employment can also be sought in Network Administration, Systems Management, Help Desk and IT Support.

In order to attain this qualification students are required to complete 28 units - 16 core units and 4 electives plus 8 pre-requisite units.
