Course Description
This course aims at making students highly competent and ready to work in a range of network design, administration and security entry-level positions. It is designed to empower students with a sound knowledge of network design, administration and security, develop skills in network design and administration in a practical hands-on environment and thereby expose students to realistic network design and administration experiences using a practical environment.
Qualification
Upon successful completion of this course the student would be awarded the Diploma in Information Technology (Networking) ICA50405 which is a nationally recognized qualification. This could help students gain entry into career paths or further education in the field of IT.
Mode & Method of Delivery
The method of delivery includes classroom based theory and practical training sessions. A simulated workplace environment is created through individual and group activities and practical tasks in both delivery and assessment where students will be facilitated to develop skills and knowledge to fulfill the requirements for each competency unit and its elements.
Entry Requirements
- IELTS average score of 6.0 or higher
- Students must be of a minimum age of 18 years or older
- International students – overseas equivalent of High School Certificate
- Local Students – Australian High School Certificate (HSC) qualification or Certificate II in IT or higher level of qualification
- Certificate IV in Information Technology (Networking) ICA40405
Pre-requisite
Foundation Units of Competence is a must prior to undertaking this course. Students who have not completed these units can undertake separate classes for these units and achieve required competency prior to commencing this course.

Assessments
Assessments cover a broad range of skills and knowledge needed to demonstrate competency and will integrate knowledge and skills with their practical application. All Assessments of units of competence will be conducted according to the Assessment guidelines and competency standards of the official Training Package for this qualification.
Assessments vary from unit to unit but generally consist of written tasks, projects, practical demonstrations, major projects that involve research and examinations.

Skill Recognition/Credit Transfers
Students may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) by providing evidence that they have the required skills and knowledge in the specific areas of competency through work /industry experience and/or completed eligible assessments in equivalent or higher qualification.
Appropriate credit transfer may be granted to eligible students against each unit of competency on evidence to successful completion of the same unit in an equivalent or higher nationally endorsed qualification.
Students with credit transfers will finish the course in a shorter duration and are advised to consult appropriate authorities/bodies for applicable criteria if they are planning further study or stay in Australia
Education Pathways
Successful completion of this course will qualify students to undertake Advanced Diploma in Information Technology (Network Security) ICA60208. Students may wish to pursue degree level qualifications and specialization.
Career Opportunities
Possible career pathways include Configuration Specialist, Enterprise Application Integration Consultant, E-Security Analyst/Manager, Integration Analyst, Integration Centre Specialist, Intranet Engineer, Middleware Integration Specialist or Network Engineer. A graduate from this diploma would progress quickly through the lower help-desk levels to a position providing advanced network support. After some industry experience they would be able to work in a team leader role in network design, analysis and management.
Units of Competence
In order to attain this qualification students are required to complete 31 units –8 core units and 6 specialist elective units, 4 elective units plus 13 Diploma pre-requisite units.
