Course Description
This qualification reflects the role of a tradesperson with a range of telecommunications skills who can install and maintain access network cabling and equipment for high speed broadband as part of the national network, optical and wireless equipment for high speed internet broadband network infrastructure, maintain telecommunications, data cabling and cabling products on customer premises Cabling at the customer premises in accordance to requirements of the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and relevant industry registration bodies, and in line with the specifications of the access network owner. Install voice and data telecommunications equipment.
This qualification also introduces the skills required for the broadband deployment using fibre optic devices.
Qualification
On successful completion of this course the student would obtain Certificate III In Broadband and Wireless Networks (ICT30610). After completion of this course, students may opt to start a career in areas of network security or choose pursue specialized and higher qualifications in the field of ICT.
Mode & Method of Delivery
The method of delivery includes classroom based theory and practical training sessions. A simulated workplace environment is created through individual and group activities and practical tasks in both delivery and assessment where students will be facilitated to develop skills and knowledge to fulfill the requirements for each competency unit and its elements.
Entry Requirements
- IELTS average score of 6.0 or higher
- Students must be of a minimum age of 18 years or older
- International students – overseas equivalent of High School Certificate
- Local Students – Australian High School Certificate (HSC) qualification or Certificate II in IT or higher level of qualification
Assessments
Assessments cover a broad range of skills and knowledge needed to demonstrate competency and will integrate knowledge and skills with their practical application. All Assessments of units of competence will be conducted according to the Assessment guidelines and competency standards of the official Training Package for this qualification.
Assessments vary from unit to unit but generally consist of written tasks, projects, practical demonstrations, major projects that involve research and examinations.

Skill Recognition/Credit Transfers
Students may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) by providing evidence that they have the required skills and knowledge in the specific areas of competency through work /industry experience and/or completed eligible assessments in equivalent or higher qualification.
Appropriate credit transfer may be granted to eligible students against each unit of competency on evidence to successful completion of the same unit in an equivalent or higher nationally endorsed qualification.
Students with credit transfers will finish the course in a shorter duration and are advised to consult appropriate authorities/bodies for applicable criteria if they are planning further study or stay in Australia.
Education Pathways
After achieving the ICT30610 Certificate III in Broadband and Wireless Networks, candidates seeking to develop more specialised technical skills and knowledge, may select from a range of Certificate IV qualifications in the ICT10 Integrated Telecommunications Training Package.
